( ALL ALONE AGAIN, SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING )- - - there's no one left to save me now - - - Rain poured down from the thick grey sheath that covered the sky, droplets of moisture pooling together on the ground to form puddles. It was dim out now, although no later than five o’clock, the abrupt arrival of rain darkening the skies more so. In the west of London, sheltered under an open plan warehouse - which large doors had been wedged open and with time have permanently stayed that way – was a girl. An eighteen year old girl to be exact sat with her knees up and head against the wall behind her. From her sitting position next to the doors, she stared out at the rain which fell only a meter or so away from her. The only noise that accompanied the rhythmic sound of the downpour was Everleigh’s impatient sighs.
Today had been a shitty day.
First there had been college. Something she didn’t want to get into now if ever she was asked how it went, but basically consisted of her teacher throwing a sarcastic comment her way when she arrived late to the lesson. Then it was work. And God, wasn’t that an eventful four hours. Taking orders from intolerant commuters and stocky, slimy builders that worked on a reconstruction sight nearby at the transport terminal’s café was a day-to-day thing she had regrettably come to handle. Cleaning up the mess they left behind she could do too. But having her boss shout at her and giving her crap about not doing her job properly by neglecting to clean the coffee filters out was something she couldn’t work with. He had gone on at her for a good hour or so – even after she had done what she was asked - in front of customers, while she went into the back to get more cardboard cup holders. It was relentless and Evie was at breaking point. It was the first time she had come close to revealing her powers. Everleigh knew that couldn’t happen – although it would have cheered her up to watch her bosses face if she sent a surge of electricity through that damn iPhone he was always attached to.
But Evie wouldn’t do that. No, that would be reckless. Immature. Not at all worth it. Everleigh knew better than to lash out and had a good control over containing herself. Even so she wouldn’t dare do it anyway; thoughts like electrocuting her boss were reserved for her own mind, not just because she would get fired but because she wouldn’t have the nerve or violence in her to do so. Simply thinking the deed made Evie shun herself, Honestly, don’t think that way. Keep it together. she had told herself when she was watching the minute hand move closer to 4.30 pm – the time when her shift would end. Finally the time arrived and she had headed outside, still highly strung from the encounter with her boss. She hadn’t counted on it raining today and hadn’t even thought about bringing an umbrella or coat. Imagine her terrible surprise when the tears of Mother Nature began to stream.
It’s not that Evie would keel over and die if caught in the rain… but if she hadn’t found the open warehouse then it would have been extremely risky. Evie had enough control to shower without shocking herself and the self-restraint to not go sending bolts of lightning from her fingertips whenever she felt like it. But with her strong irritation over the incident with her boss running through her along with new found anger at the sudden arrival of rain, the simplest twitch of her wrist when walking in the rain could accidentally let off an electric current and in theory, shock her.
And everyone knows what happens when water and electricity collide. Unfortunately for Evie, se wasn’t immune to her own power.
So she made a run for it, before the rain had gotten heavier, having made sure that her hood was yanked up and every inch of skin covered. By the time she had reached the complex of warehouses it was still a good 20 minutes away from her house – by that time the rain would have become heavier and Evie would have been soaked through. Instead of continuing her journey, Evie decided to duck under an open and vacant warehouse, knowing that it would be much wiser to stay put and wait off the rain.
And there she was, waiting. She wasn’t sure how long it would be until it eased off but that this business of waiting it out wasn’t helping her situation. Tense, Evie closed her eyes as just listened. This is how a storm should sound and look. Not mutant, gold ball sized hail stones falling from the skies like grenades and freak bolts of lightning that gave Everleigh the odd ability to manipulate electricity. Yeah, memories of that day still lingered, naturally. Who would forget the day that gave them a freakish superpower of some sort? A superpower that sucked in it's own right. She couldn't even walk in the rain! What use was it!? Evie opened her eyes and pulled her right hand from her pocket. Staring down, she gazed purposefully at the palm of her hand. It was safe to do this, she wasn’t wet from the rain after all, and knew she could keep control of it.
A faint blue ripple of energy crackled at the palm of her hand. Then another, this time coming from the tip of her index finger, joining onto the one in her palm. From the rest of her fingers, tiny blue threads began appearing, each joining together at the centre of her palm. Eyes trained on her hand, she watched as the blue volts started to merge, balling together and forming a tiny sphere. Evie stared at what she had created, now raising her left hand and attentively began running her index finger over the area around the sphere. Almost as if stroking the glow it emitted, the sphere began to spin ever so slightly, moving because of Everleigh’s actions.
“What use are you to me?” she asked the orb in a small whisper, continuing her movements while simultaneously calming herself down, unaware of how visible she may be to a passer-by. Even so, no one would be around there to see …right?

Well, what can i say - it was still Superhero time. Evan planned to meet with Tristan and whichever other Empowered Misfits of London that he could find tomorrow, but for now he was still on his usual duty, doing the things that he'd been doing since the thought of becoming a superhero had first crossed his mind. It was a shame he hadn't stopped too many criminals yet, was the only thing. Rome had ruined his first and only actual criminal so far, so to be honest.. he hadn't caught anyone.
But today - today was going to be different. You know why? Because he was actually going to catch a criminal. Of course, this was no different to what Evan tended to think each morning as he left the house, and so the chances were things would play out exactly the same, and he wouldn't catch anyone.
It's always nice to start out on a good note though, isn't it?
What made things worse immediately, was that it began to rain. Not many other elements (well, not actual elements, but you know what I mean) like being in rain. Earth is washed away, eroded into nothing. Lightning is sent wild, destroying and pulsing through the sky. Air becomes cold and clammy, unpleasant to be in. Even the strongest of iron and steel will eventually corrode, given rain enough. Fire though, hates rain the most. Fire and water are on opposite poles of the spectrum, the ultimate Yin and Yang, you might say. So when it started to rain, as you can imagine, Evan was not best pleased.
"Hmph!"
he tutted to himself as the droplets of moisture landed on his hair. He shook them off, and they were quickly replaced by newcomers. He sighed. Might as well take cover. it wasn't worth going home yet, he'd just come out. Anyway, any criminals there were around were probably hiding to. He could still catch one today, with any luck. He searched for a random warehouse, or industrial building of some sort, and -checking first to see no one was around- kicked open the door. He'd expected it to be locked. After all, most of these disused buildings were. But this one wasn't. Huh. it must have been used more recently than he had earlier suspected. He thought nothing of it though. CrackleCrackle. What was that? it sounded like.. Static or something? The clicking crack that sounds when you touch someone after touching metal and sliding about on it and all sorts of shit like that. Except it was longer. and louder. More constant. Had must have found a criminal! Evan was of course, wearing his usual superhero outfit. Well, he'd had to change it after the incident with Rome, so not really his usual. He'd kept the jumpsuit, which was orange in colour. It was sort of like one of the ones they wear in prison, or doing community service. He also had a Balaclava, which was red, and he'd sewn an orange and yellow flame onto the forehead. To be honest, he looked like more of a criminal than most criminals. What was this crackling then? he made his way closer, hiding himself behind a large, presumably empty crate. Peering around, he saw the girl who was the source of it. She was the source of the crackling electricity! She must be a criminal! Why else would she be in an abandoned warehouse, right?! Evan didn't include the fact that he was in an abandoned warehouse and wasn't a criminal into his equation. Although, technically he was a criminal. After all, he'd broken into this warehouse. That wasn't too bad though. No one would even notice. He jumped out from behind the crate, and shouted loudly: "Stop in the name of all that is good and true!" He held out a palm in defiance, and with the other hand reached into his pocket to grab a crumpled up piece of paper. He threw it towards the girl, and as it flew through the air, he let his anger take him, the anger that this girl was a criminal, and that criminals were bad. The piece of paper combusted, bursting into flames and landing about a foot away from the girl. It quickly sizzled out on the damp floor. Huh. Anticlimax. What now? "Seriously though, despite that poor show there, note that I am a Master of the Flames! You are a criminal, and you are under arrest!" he said loudly. Master of the flames. that was a good one. a very good one. "But, uh, what were you doing in here anyway?" he said, looking confused. Also unsure why he was talking to a criminal. ( ALL ALONE AGAIN, SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING )- - - there's no one left to save me now - - - "Stop in the name of all that is good and true!"
SMACK!
The unexpected shout cut through the silence and Everleigh jolted, effectively hitting her head against the wall she had her back against. A feeble, “Agh!” was all she could muster before scrambling to get onto her feet, almost tripping over her rucksack, the orb of electricity she had created was long gone now her hands were balled into fists. Head pounding slightly, she looked around, her eyes settling on the orange clad boy that stood before her. My, wasn’t he a sight, decked out in a familiar looking jumpsuit and balaclava to match. But before she could make any comment on his attire, she began to register his words.
Evie tried to ask what he was talking about when she found herself being under attack by a paper ball on fire. She didn’t even have time to react and had just stood there, apparently unaffected but really to shocked to move. Her eyes were wide with confusion and surprise at the fact he had apparently tried to attack her when he spoke again.
What? She? Everleigh? A criminal? No, he’d got it all wrong! Evie was thoroughly perplexed – first of all, she had no idea what was going on. Who was this person accusing her of criminal acts? Were her powers criminal? She wasn’t even doing anything with them…well, she kind of was… but it wasn’t as if she were flaunting them publically…in the view of another person anyway!
Too much going on at once caused Everleigh to give a somewhat crazed exclamation, “I’m the criminal!? You’re the one who tried to attack me just then with y-your… flame-grenade thing, you... pyromaniac!”
Wait--hold on. Everleigh though, suddenly becoming very aware at the fact he must have seen her use her powers. Where was the shock? Starting an electrical current in the middle of your palm wasn’t an everyday thing, was it? Then again, starting a fire by with no aid of a lighter or open flame wasn’t normal either…
Wide eyed, she shifted her weight from one foot to the other and surveyed the boy, now realizing why his jumpsuit looked familiar. Those community service people usually wore them when doing their duties – it singled them out for being misfits of the community. So he is the criminal. No wonder he had tried to throw a flaming paper ball at me! Everleigh wrongly concluded, not getting the fact it was in fact some kind of superhero disguise.
“What am I doing here!?” repeating his words in questioning, she found it odd that he’d asked her something so nonchalant after stating she was ‘under arrest’. Not understanding the inner workings of this boy at all, she decided answer simply – “…Getting out of the rain. What are you doing here?”
Her eyes dropped to the floor and towards the singed paper that was still smoking slightly. Furrowing her brows, she couldn’t help but ask, her voice quieter now, “H-how did you do that?”

Evan realised to late that this was not the criminal he was looking for. Heck, it wasn't even a criminal at all. She was just trying to get out of the rain. Still, she had a power, so he had best stick around for a while and investigate what was going on. At least until the rain cut out, and he could stay dry on his way home.
"Ooer.."
he said, trailing off and taking a step back, scratching an itch on his nose, under the Balaclava. "This.. this is just a misunderstanding! I thought you were breaking in to rob this abandoned warehouse!" Evan spoke quickly, trying to justify it to himself. He quickly began to wonder why he had ever thought someone would try and rob an abandoned warehouse. key-word: abandoned. i.e; with nothing inside of value. His reasoning had certainly be flawed. He wondered what she knew about powers as of yet, and quickly tried to think how he should play his cards. If he did it correctly, then he could keep the upper hand. Which would be good. "I am no pyromaniac! I am the Flame of Justice! A new superhero to the streets of London, who will stop criminals like yourself - or uh, like i thought was yourself - from doing crimes and shit like that!" he shouted, making his little speech. Fun times. The Flame of Justice was catching on quite a bit. To him, anyway. "Oh. Well, same at first. I don't like rain. It's wet. But anyway, then I saw you doing some crazy electric business and i thought - aha, she must be up to something!" Evan raised a finger in the air dramatically, then pointed at her. He was gonna try and speak like a detective for a little while. Seemed like a good idea. "So what - pray-tell - was that strange electrical disturbance that was present here not two minutes ago - and you'd do well to reveal to me soon... or something like that," he added, quickly realising that it didn't suit him, and wasn't working out. Then she asked what his flame-power was; how he'd done that. He was going to try and think of an excuse, but then realised: Superheroes don't need to hide their powers! It's an obvious thing! He pulled a face. "Well, i'd hardly be 'the Flame of Justice' if i couldn't control fire, would i?" he grinned, sticking his tongue out. It was a good thing his face wasn't visible, he wouldn't want to be tracked down, especially if this girl wasn't to be trusted. But she seemed nice enough, so it should be alright. Better safe than sorry. [/blockquote][/blockquote] tags :: TAGGED notes :: NOTES NYX for use on ATS, lyrics from kt turnstall :: CREDIT

( ALL ALONE AGAIN, SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING )- - - there's no one left to save me now - - - Everleigh raised her hand to the back of her head, rubbing the spot she collided with the wall and frowned at the small bump that had formed. Giving a small huff, she stared with calculating eyes at the boy, wary of him although not as intimidated as she would have been if his confident speeches hadn’t come out so fumbled. Or senseless, “Because a warehouse that lacks any useful items to steal would be the first place a criminal would choose to break into.” She commented. Her sarcastic tone was intentional although not wholly bitter – in fact it had an edge of vague light-hearted humour.
Superhero? She repeated what he said in her mind, unable to withhold a scrutinizing stare at his apparel once more and a raise of her eyebrows in a way that clearly said ‘superhero? Really? Reaaally?’ in a you-don’t-look-superheroish-therefore-I’m-unable-to-comprehend sort of way. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she was still defiant towards him, “..I thought it was ‘Master of Flames’” Everleigh couldn’t help but remark, smirking slightly and perhaps riling the boy further with her inability to take what he was saying seriously.
Although she couldn’t currently consider him a superhero, she was curious as to this…power he had. So he couldn’t go out in the rain either? At least she knew she wasn’t the only one who had this weakness. She frowned at him when he continued his finger pointing, implying she was up to trouble when he had been the one bursting in with accusations. Biting the corner of her lip, she debated telling him. For a second she thought maybe she could shock him, send a current of electricity his way, perhaps enough to knock him out so she could escape without telling him anything. No, that move would be irresponsible, plus would just contradict her intentions – either way she’d be revealing her power. But what was the point in choosing whether to reveal her secret to him or not – he’d seen it already and from his current attitude towards her Evie could guess that he wasn’t going to drop it.
It wasn’t just that though which made Everleigh tell him. She felt an odd sense of trust towards the stranger.
“It was me. I…” She began, but couldn’t find the words. Everleigh met his eyes through the balaclava and gave a small shrug before lowering her eyes, “I don’t even know.” And that much was true. She didn’t know what to call it. A curse, that’s what she had been referring it to. This boy – ‘superhero’ person who revealed he also had a strange attribute – would probably call what she had a power. Evie wasn’t at that stage of acceptance yet and her tone when she spoke reflected this, “I can – somehow – control electricity?” She would have added ‘you probably think I’m crazy’ but from what she had seen of him so far, the news wouldn’t exactly be shocking for him as he looked the type to absorb supernatural stuff pretty easily. Main giveaway being his superhero outfit.
For the first time, Evie’s clip curved into a small smile at his obvious tone and gesture. “Right.” She said, feeling her shoulders relax a little, muscles become less tense. “So… you control fire…and what? Self-assigned yourself a position of free-lance superhero?” There was another question praying on her mind and after a brief moment of silence, she asked, her voice lacking the light-hearted tone it had before; “Did your ability… Was it the storm?” Everleigh knew, somewhere in the back of her mind, the answer to this question already but wanted confirming.

Damn. He'd messed up. Both with the empty warehouse thing, and saying the wrong name. Apparently he still hadn't made up his mind as to what his super hero name should be. He scratched the back of his head sheepishly, getting at a small itch he'd found there.
"Uhhh. Yeah. Well, the name's a work in progress, and - y'know, how was i s'posed to know that this place was empty?"
he said, looking around. it seemed pretty obvious that it was empty, but he figured he should ignore that. Everything would probably be alright, he supposed. "Which one d'you think is better?" he asked, shrugging and raising an eyebrow. Both seemed good to him. Master of Flames, Flame of Justice. Both summed him up pretty well. Fire was the main thing. Spider-Man was Spider-man because he could do stuff to do with spiders, and super man was pretty super, so it would make sense that he would have some sort of 'Flame' or variation on the word in his name. He realised again that the girl was just coming to terms with her power. Clearly, she was far from malevolent, and wasn't going to attack him or anything, so he sighed. Evan pulled off his balaclava, revealing his face. Reaching out, he went to shake her hand. "Really, i'm Evan. Can't be too careful though. Hard to say who you can trust," he said, having decided for definite that she was trustworthy for him. Whether he was right or wrong was - as of yet - undecided, but he hoped he was. "..Electricity. That's a good one.." he murmured to himself. Lightning control was a good one, he guessed. But then, she'd be under even more threat from the government, probably. After all, if she could produce electricity as it seemed she could, then she was like - an unlimited power source. He'd always thought that energy couldn't be created, but maybe Powers worked outside the laws of physics. Then again, maybe not. Maybe if she made too much electricity she would burn up and die. Unfortunate, that would be. "Self proclaimed superhero, that's me. London's pretty shit if i'm honest, so i reckoned i should probably use my power for good, or something.." he said, getting a little embarrassed. Was he just being silly, trying to do all this superhero stuff? He nodded. He'd known this would probably come up. It was that storm. Always, the storm. "Yep. That bloody storm," he said, sighing. "Listen—There's more of us around, you know. More powers. All sorts. There's some of us meeting up later, we're going to try and work some things out. If you're interested, here's the place," he said, digging around in his pockets and handing over a small, crumpled sheet of paper to the girl. He hoped she could make it. The more the merrier, he supposed. [/blockquote][/blockquote] tags :: TAGGED Sorry for the wait D: :: NOTES NYX for use on ATS, lyrics from kt turnstall :: CREDIT
