Evan Rarely ventured into the community centre, or even this whole part of the city. He'd known since he was a child that this area was a bit rough, and although he hadn't been able to avoid it completely in his life in the city, he had kept away from it when possible. It wasn't that he was afraid of the people in this area (he was totally tough, man!) but he didn't want any unnecessary trouble with them, especially if he ended up getting stabbed.
As he'd grown older though, he'd made a friend who lived in the area, and he'd begun to frequent the east end of london more often, visiting his friend here. They'd drifted apart now, but if there was one thing he knew from his friendship, it was that he didn't need to be afraid of the people here. Sure, crime was pretty high, but that didn't mean they were all going to stab you through the jugular.
The community centre was even less frequented though. There had been a brief spell in his early teens when he'd hit a guy at school, and he'd had to have a couple of counselling sessions which had taken place here, but apart from that, he hadn't actually been to the community centre in years.
So why - you might ask - was he here now? Well, it was simple enough. He had been wandering london the past few days on the search for - you guessed it - Crime! Now that he was a professional crimefighting teenage mutant ninja legend, he had to keep a lookout over the city. Evan was starting to wonder whether or not he enjoyed it at all though, as these past few days he'd not actually found any crime. No doubt it had been going on, just not in the places Evan had been looking. So while it was unfortunate he hadn't found any crime to stop, he was sort of secretly glad. After all, he wouldn't want to get himself hurt, right?
So then he'd seen this poster, and he'd ended up here. There was a charity event, you see. Complimentary food and all, as long as you made a donation.
Evan didn't say no to free food.
He glanced awkwardly at the community centre door, and headed in, smiling and handing two pounds to a woman in her late thirties at the door. He walked past her, and into the main hall, where he skimmed over the tables that had information about the charity, and instead headed for the food.
a cupcake entered Evans mouth, and he chewed it slowly, leaning back against the wall. This didn't seem like a very successful charity event. There were some small stores over the other side of the room, but from what he could see they weren't selling anything decent. Well, he couldn't just take straight off. After all, he'd paid two pounds and all he'd got was one cupcake.
Maybe things would pick up soon.

Dusty hated living in East London sometimes. It was really disgusting when compared to other parts of the city. But it couldn't be helped, and she couldn't afford to move into a nice place. She'd only lived there in the first place because her boyfriend had. Not that she had much choice anyway, due to high prices and shallow pockets..
It was funny how people who hadn't actually been to London imagined the place. They only thought of the red tour buses and the amazing shops. Which she had to admit were pretty good, although most of the shops were really expensive, except the huge primark, which really came in handy. But there was a darker side of it. The side that Dusty constantly saw. Crime rates in East London were high and most people seemed to be getting tired of life, so threw it away with drugs. Drugs were fun, but not in a large quantity. They were just destroying something as amazing as life. Maybe their lives weren't as amazing as Dusty's..
She walked past the community center, and passed a sign indicating free food. She ignored it, walking past, then stopped. It was for charity. She could give a very small amount of her money to somebody who needed it more. She wasn't always a giver, but right then was one of those moments when the idea of doing such a kindness had overcome her.
Dusty walked to the door, and chucked all of her spare change into the bucket that a woman was holding out to her, urging her to drop in as much money as possible. The bucket looked pretty empty, so clearly it wasn't a very popular event.. A bit of a shame really that people were selfish enough not to come and donate.. Although most people in this area were really poor anyway, so clearly it wasn't a very well-targeted and well-organized event.
She looked around the room. It wasn't even busy. There were a few tables with information about the charity, but she couldn't be bothered to find out about it, she didn't really care all that much. It wasn't as though she was obsessed with the greater good or anything.. Dusty walked over to the tables of food. Some of it looked really nice, some of it not so much. She didn't want any of it, since food was more of a necessity than a luxury to her the majority of the time. Scanning the crowd (which was more like a couple of people walking sullenly around), she spotted a guy who looked around her age, maybe a little younger. Should she go and talk to him, or should she just stand around like an idiot? After a few moments of thought, she began to walk towards him, deciding she'd look like more of an idiot if she just came in to stand around than if she actually did something.
She stood beside him, watching as he took a bite out of a cupcake. "Hey," she said, sounding unusually unsure of herself. "Enjoying that cupcake?" she chuckled, imagining it not to be the nicest cupcake he'd ever tasted..
Dusty shifted her weight to one leg, and folded her arms, curling her body over, probably so she looked even less confident. Why the sudden confidence drop? Maybe it was just because she was in a room of people that she could sense were looking at her. It could be the top that showed her stomach.. most people in the room were quite old and probably didn't approve of showing any skin.
"I'm Dusty." She held out her hand for him to shake, hoping that he didn't think her weird for coming to talk to him. She'd only made her first friend the other day in Tristen, and would now dash at any opportunity to add to that list. "You look kinda familiar.. like most people recently. Do I know you? You a student?"

Why were there only old people around here anyway? Surely the prospect of free food would have attracted some more youngsters into the community centre. Admittedly, both the event and the free food (despite being free) were rather poor quality, but still. Not many teens passed up the opportunity for free stuff, especially students. Evan was pretty glad, he wouldn't even have to pay for his lunch this day, because he'd managed to find this table of edibles.
Eventually, someone else did come along. She was pretty, which was good. Even if Evan didn't end up talking to someone, he liked looking at pretty girls, as did most heterosexual men, and even some kinds of women.
Well, she beat the oldies around here anyway.
Evan smiled awkwardly at an elderly woman who waddled up to him and picked up a cupcake, smiling kindly in his direction.
"Good afternoon, ma'am,"
[/b] he said politely to the old lady, though he immediately felt stupid and rushed away from the table, grabbing another cupcake and a small cheese sandwich before he did so. The cupcakes weren't the best, but they were alright, and he was still enjoying the process of ingesting them into his blood stream. Nom nom nom, as they say. The girl approached him, and he stood up a little, changing his stance. He was a superhero, after all. She asked him whether or not he was enjoying his cupcake, and immediately he broke into a smile. "Not the best i've ever had. It'll do though. Wanna' try one?"[/b] he asked, shrugging and handing the other one he'd picked up out, if she wanted it. He'd only touched the case, so it was alright. Besides, his hands were probably clean enough. Having finished his own cupcake, he took a bite out of the cheese sandwich. it was pretty vile, if he was honest. The bread was smothered with some sort of processed, low fat spread. He pulled a face, and discreetly tossed it into a nearby bin which stood up against the wall. The sandwich knocked off the metal lid of the bin, not being heavy enough to push it open, and slipped onto the floor. Receiving a venomous glare from one of the volunteers, Evan sheepishly dashed over, picking it up and placing it in the bin properly this time. He rushed back, grinning broadly. "Nice to meetcha', Dusty,"[/b] he said. It was an odd name. Dusty was sort of like, Dirty wasn't it? Like when you don't sweep. Curiously, Evan wondered why someone would name their child after the state of a room which had not been cleaned. perhaps it was short for something, but he didn't actually think of that. "I'm Evan! I don't think i know you. I am a student though. I'm guessing you are to then? I haven't seen you around the Uni, but I guess i'm not there all that much anyway,"[/b] he said, shrugging. A lot of his study was done at home, and he mainly went to the university for the lectures and tutoring. He spent a lot of his time in his apartment, and increasingly now out on the streets, patrolling. You might say that one would see him rolling, but very few people would be hating, because they were unaware that Evan was out fighting crime, rather than just wandering about. Well, trying to fight crime anyway. "Quite the event they've got going on here, eh?"[/b] he said with a sarcastic smile, though he lowered his voice so the woman who had glared at him a moment ago wouldn't see. He didn't like old people much, they scared him sometimes. Alice made her way home from university. She had only been there an hour or so, just to popped in to hand some work in. Living in the North of London Alice rarely came to the East, but her mother had had something ordered to store for collection and Alice had said she would pick it up after University. It wasn’t exactly on her way home, but still, Alice didn’t mind. With her carriage back in her right hand and her handbag balancing on her left arm Alice made her way to the bus stop to make her way. She hated public transport, it just seemed so dirty. She preferred to stand on the buses and a tubes since she had no idea what sort of people had been sitting on the seats before her. She was desperate to pass her driving test but her mother told there was no point driving in London since everything in on your door step, plus the congestion charge was no help. So Alice had given up on driving, but still was desperate for that pink licence.
Alice continued walking down the road, tapping away on her phone, not paying full attention to whatever was going on in front of her. She was too busy reading her facebook updates and texting. Alice then heard a loud honk. She jumped and dropped her phone on the fall. Looking up she saw she was in the middle of the road and a bus was heading straight for her. Quickly she raised her hands and closed her eyes, hoping for the best. Everything felt silent. She had successful froze the bus, inches away from her, and all other traffic in the area, including a few pedestrians. Alice glanced at the floor to see her phone in bits. She gathered the bits up and sighed. She then remembered the bus that was about to hit her, she rapidly moved off the road as it unfroze seconds later. Alice could feel her heart pounding in her chest, that was a close call. At times like this she was grateful for her power.
Alice slipped bits of her phone into her pocket as she crossed the next road safely this time. She was still a little shaken. She kept reminded herself how she shouldn’t use her power in public, anybody could see, or find out. Alice wanted to find out how effective her freezing ability was, she wanted to know how far away she could freeze. Alice’s mind began to wandered, she could freeze the whole of London if she wanted, but she still hadn’t discovered why she couldn’t freeze Tristen that day at the train station though.
As Alice passed the community centre something caught her eye. Free food? Alice stood for a moment, lingering, wondered whether she should go inside. Alice slowly pushed the door open and walked inside. She noticed a woman with a bucket collecting for charity, so Alice put a couple of quid in there before walking off into the hall. Alice wasn’t one for carrying round loose change, she preferred to just use her card, but she doubted they had a chip and pin services here. It wasn’t that busy though, few people scattered round. Her eyes fell on Dusty and Evan, the only young people in there. She then looked back at the food that was lay out, she picked up a ham sandwich, handful of crisps and placed them on a paper plate. Alice slowly walked over to an empty table and sat down. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. Alice bit down into the ham sandwich and turned her attention to her phone, trying to put it back together.
